Deregulation

A Time of Change

The deregulation of electric utilities across the nation has created a great deal of confusion for consumers and business owners alike.

Human beings are creatures of habit and as a general rule we resist change. The deregulation of the electric industry is an example of positive change engineered by the government to create a more efficient system. Deregulation is a good thing.

It should be understood that deregulation has been brought about by the Public Utility Commission in PA and the Bureau of Public Utilities in NJ. These 2 agencies have as their mission to protect consumers.

Prior to deregulation electric companies had a monopoly and it has been proven that a monopoly is a bad thing for consumers. Here's an article that gives a good overview of the process. Click

Should you switch?

Let's face it, the prospect of your electricity going out is not something anyone want to face. That will not happen as a result of switching to a lower cost provider.

Over 1,000,000 Pennsylvanians and over 1,000,000 people from New Jersey have already switch and the only difference they see is that their bills are lower.

To be clear, if you decide to use an alternative energy supplier:

  • You will still have your electricity delivered by your current electric company.
  • You will remain a customer of your current electric company and will still recieve your bill from them.
  • Your electric company will still be responsible for service.
  • Same meter. Same electricity.

You just pay less.

But don't take our word for it. Let's look at your electric company's website and see what they say about energy choice:

In addition both the PA Public Utility Commission and the NJ Bureau of Public Utilities address energy choice on their websites:

Here is the website of The NJ Bureau of Public Utilities which explains the NJ Energy Choice Program - click

The evidence is overwhelming. Why pay one penny more for electricity than you have to? And the likelihood is the default rate that your electric company charges if you don't switch is likely to continue to go up. Here's a recent article about PECOs next price hike - click here.

In summary, here is a video from a local newscast "3 On Your Side," that gives a good overview - be sure your speakers are on - click here.

Like they say, it's better to have that money in your pocket!
