What is the ESS?

The Energy Saving System (ESS) was designed to correct power problems, reduce utility bills, and save money. The ESS is a box that is installed after the main electrical panel. It is U.L. listed as Industrial Control Equipment and is approved by the New York City Alliance to Save Energy. The ESS is electromagnetic and has no moving parts, thus its useful life is well over 20 years.

How does it work?

The ESS helps balance the load in the panel box, takes out the power surges, and reduces the energy line loss and electrical noise on the lines. It reduces wear and tear on motors and lights, making the motors run cooler, and ballasts and fluorescent bulbs last longer as the spikes are taken out of the lines. The process through which our product reduces the electrical power (kW and kWh) drawn from the utility is centered on the action of the magnetic chokes. It converts the reactive power component that is present in an inductively loaded system to useful real electrical power and provides this power to the system. It can almost be thought of as a mini cogenerator, which provides part of the real power that the inductive loads need to operate. Less power from the utility means a lower electric bill.

What makes the ESS unique?

  • A significant thing to note is that the Energy Saving System, as a shunt device, is installed in parallel. Hence, in the unlikely event of a failure by the unit, power is not interrupted to the loads.

  • Another important feature is that it does not starve the load electrically as some energy reduction devises do. With the system online, the load receives the rated voltage, current, and power required for the load to operate. The reductions are all on the line side of the unit. These reductions are in line current and line power. It is the line power reduction that lowers the electrical bill.

  • While power factor correction capacitors cannot reduce the kW that the utility must supply to a load, our technology can. We remove wasted harmonic and RF noise energy and produce usable energy (real power) that is supplied to the load, thus reducing the amount of real power that the utility company must supply to the load. The load still receives the real power it requires to operate at its rated performance level—but we provide a portion of that real power and the utility provides less, thus lowering the electrical bill.

  • This method of improving power factor is superior to installing capacitors because the unit can maintain a high power factor as loads change. The magnetic chokes in the unit continuously sense the load current and automatically adjust power factor compensation as load changes. Capacitors cannot do this. A magnetic choke is an electrical component that is constructed of wire wrap around a ferromagnetic core. In general, a choke (also called an inductor) serves to resist rapid increases in current flow. As current increases, the action of the choke is to build a magnetic field, which induces a voltage across the choke windings that work to slow the rate at which the current increases.

  • The chokes are unique in their construction, connection, and physical orientation with respect to each other within the unit enclosure. The construction involves a core that is nearly a complete loop; a gap of specific dimensions breaks the loop. In addition to the core itself, wires from the other electrical phases pass through the wraparound windings of the choke. This aspect of construction when combined with the unique connection and orientation mentioned earlier enables a cross-coupling, or transference, of magnetic energy between the chokes as the magnetic fields build up and collapse in the chokes with each electrical cycle. This action, when combined with the actions of other circuit components, provides the energy-saving, power-conditioning capabilities of the unit.

Our Whole House Energy Saving System is comprised of proven technologies that have been used by industry for years—magnetic chokes, metal oxide varistors, and filter circuits. We at RR&A have integrated these technologies into a single enclosure designed to provide the homeowner with the following benefits:

Energy savings

The Whole House Energy Saving System improves the electrical energy efficiency of motorized equipment in the home, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, fans, pool/spa pumps, etc. With higher operating efficiencies, the electrical equipment requires less energy to operate and run at lower operating temperatures, which extends the useful life of such equipment. The end result is savings to the homeowner.

Surge suppression

Works to suppress excess electrical energy caused by power surges and spikes. The Whole House Energy Saving System helps to protect valuable equipment in the home (computers, TVs, stereos, appliances, etc.) from harmful power surges. The unit is installed at the home's electrical panel. MOVs inside the system work to suppress excess electrical energy and power surges or spikes. Our system helps to protect all electrical products in the home.

Clean power

Electrical noise is caused by disturbances in an electrical system, either generated externally or internally. Turning on the vacuum can cause static on your television set. This is known as electrical noise. The filter circuit within the Whole House Energy Saving System will help reduce electrical noise, thus improving your home's power quality. Our system is environmentally friendly as well. By reducing energy usage by the homeowner, utilities don't have to produce as much power. The result: Less burning of nonrenewable natural resources at the generation station (oil, coal, or natural gas), resulting in less hazardous waste and atmospheric emissions. The RR&A Whole House Energy Saving System is inexpensive, easy to install, maintenance free, and comes with a 10-year limited warranty.
